Coordination is the final boss

Unlocking the Cybereconomy

We stand on the brink of a future that promises unprecedented prosperity. A post-scarcity world — where goods are cheap and universally accessible, scientific discovery knows no bounds, and humanity colonizes other planets — is no longer science fiction. Advances in energy capture and AI could push us toward becoming a Kardashev-scale society. But achieving this future isn’t just a technological challenge — it’s a coordination challenge.

Humanity’s progress has always depended on our ability to work together. However, as AI models grow more complex and require immense compute power, they inevitably lead to centralization. Governments and corporations will compete to monopolize these technologies, while extremists may seek to weaponize them. If left unchecked, this trend could result in a future dominated by monopolies — think China’s state-controlled AI or America’s corporate-controlled cyberpunk dystopia.

But there’s another path. A future where the benefits of AI are distributed globally and equitably, where individuals — not closed-door bureaucracies — hold the power. This is the promise of the cybereconomy: decentralized, programmable and impartial systems running as open-source software. Institutions would be auditable and accessible to anyone, with collective ownership and governance, decentralized AI training, privacy-preserving model inference and truly decentralized identity. Programmable markets could incentivize the development of open and equally accessible AI for all.

Coordination technology is more than just a challenge; it’s the final boss standing between us and a truly liberated future. To conquer it, we need to build robust tools for collective decision-making and cooperation, ensuring that AI progress benefits everyone, not just a select few:

  • Programmable AI-assisted governance for digitally-native democratic, verifiable, inclusive deliberation and sense-making
  • Technodemocracy with verifiable onchain voting and policy-making
  • Programmable, credibly neutral cybernetic law, combining speed and predictability of the code and robustness of the legal system
  • Decentralized money and finance as a foundational layer for AI-native, agentic economy
  • Self-sovereign identity, empowering individuals with ownership of their data and assets
  • Decentralized training & inference, ensuring that AI capabilities remain accessible for all
  • Multi-agent networks of software that can autonomously make decisions, enter into contracts and operate as self-suffiecent economic actors
  • Collective ownership of physical and digital assets via DAOs and network states

The time to act is now. We can break free from the grip of centralization and shape a future where prosperity is shared. For that, we must build an open and healthy cybereconomy to serve as a new coordination layer for individuals, businesses, nations and AIs.
